Overview
Reporting to the Head of Project Management, the Senior Project Manager will ensure programmes or projects are planned and delivered in line with contractual obligations and expectations, creating a positive client relationship. The role involves leading the delivery of complex, high-value programmes while ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure projects are executed and controlled to meet customer requirements and minimise risks.
- Ensure full compliance with nuclear safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Execute the project management processes on assigned projects.
- Develop, maintain and manage project plans, schedules, risk registers and budgets.
- Lead hazard identification and risk assessments for project activities.
- Manage contracts and procurement processes to deliver project objectives.
- Manage client and stakeholder relationships, including third parties and vendors.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (engineering, QSHE, commercial, project controls, operations) to achieve successful delivery.
- Monitor performance, report regularly and implement corrective actions.
- Assess future resource needs and provide input.
- Drive lessons learned, continuous improvement and project governance.
- Promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement and innovation.
- Coach and mentor junior team members.
Qualifications
- Degree in Project Management, Engineering or related discipline.
- APM PPQ or equivalent, working towards Chartership.
- Member of a recognised project professional body (APM, PMI).
- IOSH or NEBOSH Managing Safely (highly desirable).
- In-depth knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 19443) and IMS systems.
- Knowledge of nuclear safety culture attributes.
Desired development within 3 years
- Chartered project professional status.
- Recognised qualification in leadership.
- Managing Successful Programmes (MSP).
Experience, skills and knowledge
- Extensive experience managing large, highly regulated projects (£5 M+).
- Proven experience in regulated environments demanding strict compliance.
- Strong control artefact management (schedules, cost models) with expertise in Primavera and MS Project.
- Application of QSHE standards such as ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 19443.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Risk management and mitigation experience.
- Proficient in applying safety practices to high‑risk projects.
- Budget management ensuring financial health and cost control.
- Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to navigate complex political and technical environments.
