AI Engineer / Developer
Position Overview
At CGI, you will help design and deliver advanced AI solutions that support mission‑critical systems across the Space, Defence and Intelligence sector. As an AI Developer / Engineer you will build and deploy intelligent applications that unlock the value of data, enhance decision‑making, and drive operational impact. Location & Clearance
Due to the secure nature of the programme you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This position will be based on site near Gloucester 5 days a week.
Duties and Responsibilities
In this role you will design, build and deploy AI‑enabled applications within secure, often disconnected environments. You will take ownership of developing machine learning and AI solutions, including large language models, retrieval systems and data pipelines, ensuring they are scalable, reliable and optimised for performance. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams you will integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and contribute to solving complex operational challenges. You will bring creativity and technical expertise to developing innovative solutions, while being supported by a collaborative and forward‑thinking environment.
- Design and develop AI‑enabled applications and machine learning solutions
- Build and optimise end‑to‑end ML pipelines and data workflows
- Train, fine‑tune and deploy models, including LLMs and other AI systems
- Integrate and enhance AI capabilities within existing platforms
- Deploy and manage AI workloads using containerisation and orchestration tools
- Collaborate and innovate with cross‑functional teams to solve complex challenges
- Monitor and improve model performance and scalability in production
Qualifications
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
- Strong Python development skills
- Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals and AI concepts
- Experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or LangChain
- Experience developing and deploying machine learning models into production
- Knowledge of data pipelines and CI/CD practices
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or similar technologies
- Familiarity with LLMs, retrieval systems or vector databases (desirable)
- Experience working with GPU or on‑premise AI environments (advantageous)
