The Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse will collaborate closely with the Director and Head of Infection Prevention and Control to develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control (IPC) practice. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and visitors by minimizing the risk of healthcare‑associated infections (HCAIs) and maintaining compliance with national and international regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of infection prevention & control nurses and staff across sites, including acute and community settings.
- Provide professional advice as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Develop, implement, audit, and ensure adherence to infection control policies.
- Assess training needs for all infection‑related issues; plan, implement, and evaluate education and training for all disciplines of staff across all sites.
- Promote and develop best practice in the field of infection prevention and control and create a culture of effective healthcare amongst Trust staff.
- Work jointly with the Director and Head of Infection Prevention & Control to develop a strategy and action plan for IPC in the Trust, ensuring staff work towards these objectives and demonstrate year‑on‑year improvement.
- Lead and/or coordinate delegated IPC projects.
- Ensure and organise the provision of a 7‑day service.
- Deputise for the Director and Head of IPC at meetings within and outside the Trust as requested.
- Role‑model compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape a collective leadership culture within the Trust.
