Job Overview
Neonatal Senior Clinical Fellow in the neonatal department at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton. Tier 2 paediatric doctor (ST4+) with a career focus in Neonatology.
Based at the tertiary NICU (26 cots) with referrals from neighbouring units.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical service in Neonatal Medicine, including cover for labour ward, post‑natal wards, and neonatal unit.
- Supervise and support a team of Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPs) and Enhanced Practice (EP) nurses across all unit areas.
- Attend all births where resuscitation may be required and manage neonatal patients under supervision.
- Maintain accurate case records, investigations and correspondence with GP and other professionals.
- Participate in clinical and service activities to uphold high standards of patient care.
- Engage in under‑ and post‑graduate teaching and training.
- Support research, audit and quality improvement programmes in line with Trust policies.
- Contribute to clinical service management, development and policy implementation.
- Provide cover for colleagues on study and annual leave during the daytime.
- Handle occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances as requested by Consultants.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Tier 2 paediatric doctor (ST4 or above) with experience in neonates or a closely allied specialty.
- Full MRCPCH or equivalent level desirable.
- Registered with the General Medical Council by the date of commencement.
- Clearance by Disclosure and Barring Service (Enhanced DBS).
- Willingness to work flexible shifts and cross‑cover for colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and in a team under supervision.
Training & Support
The Clinical Fellowship Programme offers sponsorship for GMC registration, excellent training facilities, research experience and mentorship by senior consultants.
Shift Pattern & Working Hours
Average 1:8 shift rota: 0900‑1700 for a standard working day, 0900‑2200 daytime on‑call, 2100‑1000 night shift.
Leave & Benefits
- Annual leave entitlement: 27 days + 8 bank holidays per annum (pro‑rated for contracts under 12 months).
- Full‑time fixed‑term appointment with educational supervisor and mentor.
- Study leave within budget and support for professional development.
Appointment Conditions
Full‑time fixed‑term with managerial accountability to the Clinical Director of Neonatal Services. Subject to satisfactory health clearance and DBS.
