Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, compassionate and enthusiastic staff nurse to join the Infectious Diseases Unit, Medical Directorate at Liverpool University Hospital (New Royal site). The post is full‑time (37.5 hours per week) on the internal rotation, covering long days, early/late shifts and night shifts on ward 8A – a 19‑bed infectious diseases ward treating patients with acute infections, meningitis, NT, influenza, E.coli bacteremia, urinary infections, cellulitis, airborne infections, tropical infections and chronic conditions such as HIV.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care for patients.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and carry out delegated tasks from the ward manager or sister.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and carers.
- Set nursing priorities, create care plans and inform the nurse in charge of any changes affecting patient care.
- Document nursing care in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.
- Contribute to the development of the unit’s Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking.
- Respect and consider the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
- Safely check and administer drugs.
- Participate in the preceptorship programme to develop competence, confidence and expertise.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (1st level) with current UK professional registration.
- Post‑registration qualification in a relevant specialty.
- Experience liaising with multi‑professional teams at all levels.
Skills & Experience
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organisational and team‑working abilities.
- Ability to work flexibly (shortened, compressed or fixed shifts).
- Basic IT skills, including e‑mail and word processing.
- Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment and working with learners.
Desirable
- Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor training.
