Overview

The hospital offers an excellent starting salary (dependent on experience) with pay enhancements for overtime, shift and out-of-hours work. The average working week is 39 hours per week plus overtime opportunities as required. As a Senior House Officer (SHO) you will work closely with junior doctors, registrar doctors and consultants within your department. You must maintain liaison with colleagues who are on duty immediately before and after you to ensure adequate communication and continuity of patient care. You will instruct nursing staff in the care of patients and professional technical staff in investigations as required, ensuring all departments have the necessary information. Tier 2 Sponsorship is available for doctors who require a Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK; the trust welcomes all doctors with appropriate experience, including EU and UK‑trained doctors, and will issue the relevant paperwork upon appointment.

Duties

• To provide safe and effective care of patients.• Have delegated responsibility for all patients under the care of the Consultant to whose firm you are attached, and for patients of all Consultants when undertaking emergency cover or when other SHOs are off duty.• Refer to the Consultant(s) when problems arise beyond your authority and/or experience, and oversee and advise the House Officers.• Apply specialist knowledge and skills across a range of impairments, procedures and practices gained through practical experience, underpinned by theoretical knowledge.• Have continuing responsibility for the care of patients and the functioning of the department.• Provide diagnosis and treatment for all categories of patient in the department.• Actively participate in staff meetings, forums and development programmes to support service development and maintain high‑quality care.

Salary & Benefits

The salary is based on the national salary scale as outlined in the Medical & Dental Terms/Conditions, ranging from £37,068 to £57,650 per annum. The hospital supports professional development, provides funding for continuing education, and participates in GMC revalidation.

Study Leave

Professional or study leave is granted for purposes approved by the trust and includes time for study, research, teaching, examinations and attendance at professional conferences. The study leave allowance is a maximum of 10 days per annum.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Ability to act as part of a team.
  • Ability to cope with a varying workload.
  • IELTS overall score 7.5 or OET Grade B (for IMG).
  • GMC registration essential (General Medical Council). Guidance is available if needed.

Other Requirements

All staff with access to children or vulnerable adults are subject to DBS disclosure, following the merged DBS (formerly CRB + ISA) police check or character reference. Overseas candidates require an international police check or character reference.
