The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with a strong focus on data platform engineering, internal automation, and reporting systems. In this role, you will operate at the intersection of SRE and Data, owning the reliability, scalability, and evolution of our internal data ecosystem. You will design and build data pipelines, reporting infrastructure, and automation frameworks that improve operational visibility, decision‑making, and system efficiency. The successful candidate will look to establish a reliable, observable data platform, deliver production‑grade data pipelines and reporting systems, improve data quality and accessibility and enable self‑service analytics across the organisation.
What You Will Get To Do
Data Platform Reliability & Architecture
- Design, build, and maintain a scalable and reliable data platform
- Apply SRE principles (SLIs/SLOs, observability, fault tolerance) to data pipelines and data services
- Define data architecture, models, and standards aligned with business needs
- Ensure high availability and performance of data systems and reporting layers
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines integrating multiple internal and external data sources
- Optimise data workflows for performance, cost, and scalability
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline failures and data inconsistencies
Internal Automation & DataOps
- Automate operational processes using scripting, APIs, and Infrastructure as Code
- Implement DataOps practices, including CI/CD for data pipelines and workflows
- Reduce manual reporting and operational overhead through automation
- Build reusable frameworks for internal data tooling
Monitoring, Observability & Incident Response
- Implement monitoring and alerting for data pipelines, data freshness, and reporting systems
- Define SLIs/SLOs for data availability, latency, and accuracy
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for data‑related issues
- Establish observability standards across data and platform systems
- Join the out-of-hours on‑call rota (typically once every 3–4 weeks) once suitably skilled and appropriately trained
Analytics & Reporting Enablement
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting solutions (e.g., Power BI or similar tools)
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into data solutions
- Enable self‑service analytics and improve data accessibility
- Deliver actionable insights to support decision‑making
Infrastructure & Scalability
- Support and optimise cloud‑based data infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Implement scalable storage, compute, and orchestration solutions
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure systems produce reliable data
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as a bridge between Engineering, Operations, and Business teams
- Promote best practices across SRE, DevOps, and Data Engineering
- Contribute to a culture of automation, reliability, and continuous improvement
What You Will Bring
- 5+ years in SRE, Data Engineering, or DevOps roles
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong experience with data modelling and pipeline development
- Experience implementing monitoring and observability systems
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, etc.)
- Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building a data platform from scratch
- Familiarity with DataOps and governance frameworks
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with AI tooling and experience using it to enhance output
Why You Will Love It Here!
- Your Future: Professional Development Reimbursement, including access to SS&C University
- Your Wellbeing: Competitive benefits designed to support the well‑being of our staff
- Diversity & Inclusion: Committed to Welcoming, Celebrating and Thriving on Diversity
- Training: Hands‑On, Team‑Customised throughout your career
