Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydraulic Modeller in our rapidly growing Edinburgh and Glasgow offices – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.

In this role, you will act as a senior technical leader and advisor, driving excellence in project delivery while supporting and developing team capability.

We take a collaborative approach across our Water, Energy, Environmental and Transportation sectors, and we are looking for a proactive leader to help grow and strengthen our UK Water teams.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for hydraulic modelling, hydrology and flooding projects.
  • Lead the development of technical approaches and methodologies, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective project delivery.
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to the team, supporting complex problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Deliver and oversee technically challenging, high-profile projects for key clients.
  • Provide specialist technical input into studies and designs within your area of expertise.
  • Lead and contribute to interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control processes, including review of calculations, models, and technical outputs.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, reports, and design documentation.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical effort for projects.
  • Contribute to the development of project budgets and schedules, ensuring delivery aligns with client and programme requirements.
  • Use your expertise across all stages of project delivery, including PS&E (Plans, Specifications & Estimates) packages.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance to clients, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level staff, helping them progress towards chartership and technical excellence.

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, GIS, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM (or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in hydraulic modelling, hydrology, GIS, or data analysis, including ArcGIS.
  • Strong understanding of UK and international hydrology practices.
  • Significant experience in fluvial, pluvial, and integrated hydraulic modelling, particularly using Innovyze ICM, Flood Modeller, or TUFLOW.
  • Proven track record as a technical lead on complex modelling and hydrology projects.
  • Strong experience within water consultancy, delivering multidisciplinary projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop methodologies, manage technical delivery, and influence project outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
