Quantity Surveyor – Northampton

Up to £80,000 per annum.

Our client is a leading Civil Engineering and Building Contractor specialising in Infrastructure and Groundworks within the residential sector. They are looking for a motivated Quantity Surveyor to join their Northampton Commercial Team.

Responsibilities include project management across the East Midlands and Northern Home Counties.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Regular site visits and liaison with the production team.
  • Preparation and review of tenders with estimators, providing value engineering advice.
  • Early cost advice to clients on variations, ensuring only authorised variations are undertaken.
  • Technical advice on drawings and ensuring correct documentation for each project.
  • Managing end‑to‑end commercial aspects of assigned projects to maximise value; collaboration with Finance and Procurement departments.
  • Ensuring all commercial accountabilities are undertaken in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Analysis of rates, prices, variations and compensation events.
  • Identification and analysis of potential debt risks and negotiation of financial reconciliation with third parties.
  • Forecasting monthly and annual profit figures, maintaining them throughout the project lifetime.
  • Understanding safety principles on sites and projects; supporting the safety director and team in policy application.
  • Addressing safety concerns immediately with safety team and directors.
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, including social networking.
  • Allocating work to subcontractors and assisting with procurement when required.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
  • Experience working on groundwork or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated high confidentiality.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to gather and analyse information skilfully.
  • Highly motivated and willing to work hard.
