Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead on‑site delivery of electrical infrastructure projects, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cable installations. Operating as part of the wider Project Management discipline, you will provide day‑to‑day site leadership, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient execution of construction activities across complex energy projects.
This role is suited to individuals with significant site experience who can confidently coordinate contractors, manage construction sequencing, and ensure high‑quality installation of HV/LV and associated civil works. Candidates will be required to be present in our client office or site 2‑3 days per week.
Job Objectives
Construction Managers oversee multiple site‑based work fronts, ensuring that construction activities are executed in accordance with approved designs, method statements and regulatory requirements. You will act as the primary on‑site interface between contractors, client representatives and the Project Management team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee programme‑level governance, reporting, assurance and performance management across multiple projects or major workstreams.
- Lead day‑to‑day site operations, managing construction activities across substations, OHL, UGC, HV/LV works and associated civil engineering tasks.
- Manage subcontractors, site logistics and work sequencing, ensuring delivery aligns with programme and safety requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with H&S, CDM, environmental and quality standards, including reviewing RAMS, permits and safety documentation.
- Oversee the installation of electrical systems, ensuring correct implementation of designs, technical specifications and installation practices.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, designers and client representatives, providing clear updates, technical input and solution‑focused site leadership.
- Monitor site progress, report against plan and escape risks, issues and blockers to maintain programme performance.
- Resolve on‑site issues proactively, ensuring safe and efficient decision‑making aligned with client governance.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in construction management, electrical engineering, civil engineering or a related discipline (preferred).
- Strong understanding of construction H&S regulations, CDM and quality processes.
- Proficient with reporting tools and collaboration platforms, including field management or site reporting apps (e.g. SiteCapture, FieldView – if applicable).
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, method statements, technical documents and installation specifications.
- Proven experience in construction management within infrastructure, utilities or electrical engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure installation (HV/LV, substations, OHL, UGC).
- Experience working under NEC contract environments (advantages but not essential).
- Confident managing multi‑disciplinary site teams and coordinating complex construction activities.
- Eligible to obtain BPSS security clearance.
