Locum Consultant – Sexual and Reproductive Health

Position: Locum Consultant (Sexual and Reproductive Health/HIV)

Location: Churchill Hospital, Oxford (primary), with potential commitments at Banbury level 3 service.

Contract: Fixed term 12 months (maternity leave cover), part‑time 8 sessions per week (Monday to Friday).

Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum pro rata.

Main responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive integrated sexual health and HIV care across Oxfordshire, including service delivery to a mobile student population.
  • Diagnose and treat complex genital conditions and manage contraception initiation and repeat at a consultant level.
  • Offer holistic care to patients presenting after sexual assault, and provide psychosexual counselling and outreach.
  • Deliver community gynaecology services and HIV outpatient care.
  • Support telemedicine services and maintain postal kit provision.
  • Collaborate with the Infectious Diseases team and multidisciplinary teams to share workload and explore integration of services.

Person specification

Registration

  • Primary medical qualification (MBBS/MBChB).
  • Diploma of Sexual and Reproductive Health (DFSRH).
  • Entry onto GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of CCT date; or submitted CESR application.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Minimum four months prior NHS work experience as F2 or CT1.
  • Higher medical degree.
  • Letter of Competence in sub-dermal implants and intrauterine techniques.
  • Diploma in HIV.

Clinical skills

  • Minimum 48 months postgraduate medical experience.
  • Broad experience in GUM/HIV Medicine with complex presentations.
  • Ability to manage contraception at a consultant level.
  • Full and independent responsibility for patients’ clinical care.
  • Awareness of developments in the specialty and ability to critically appraise their impact.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and consent for young people.
  • Non-judgemental approach to sexual health presentations, including unplanned pregnancy.
  • Competence in basic life support.
  • Specialist experience in genital dermatology, genital pain syndromes, care of sexual assault victims, and IUD insertion and removal.

Professional skills

  • Patient-centred approach to clinical care.
  • Strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Effective working in community-based settings.

Research

  • Ability to appraise research critically and apply outcomes to clinical practice.
