A local authority in Essex is looking to appoint a number of experienced Temporary Accommodation Officers to join their Move On team on a contract basis for an initial 3 months.

This role would suit someone confident working directly with households in temporary accommodation, supporting move‑on pathways and ensuring cases are progressed efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as the first point of contact for households in temporary accommodation, building trust and managing expectations
  • Carrying out home visits to complete occupancy, identity and affordability checks
  • Updating housing needs assessments and identifying appropriate move‑on routes into settled accommodation
  • Verifying household composition, including adult dependents for housing register eligibility
  • Updating housing register applications to reflect changes in circumstances
  • Working closely with the Move On team to support property matching and successful housing outcomes

What you'll need

  • Recent experience working within temporary accommodation or homelessness services in a local authority
  • Strong customer engagement skills and confidence managing sensitive conversations
  • Ability to work 2-3 days per week in the office
