Flexible Working
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis (e.g. job share), despite the position being advertised as full-time.
WMG at the University of Warwick is undertaking a significant investment in Research & Teaching academic recruitment across several strategically important growth areas. As part of this coordinated campaign, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing Systems to join our Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Systems (AMPS) Research Group.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to internationally leading research and innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital manufacturing, and intelligent industrial systems. Working closely with academic, industrial, and international partners, the successful candidate will help develop innovative solutions in areas including AI-enabled manufacturing, digital twins, intelligent automation, manufacturing analytics, industrial data systems, and system-level optimisation.
The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality research, collaborative funding activity, postgraduate supervision, and research-informed teaching within WMG’s highly interdisciplinary and industry-focused environment. The role will support the continued growth of research and innovation across advanced manufacturing, electrification, sustainable production systems, battery manufacturing, and software-enabled industrial systems.
WMG has a strong international reputation for translating emerging technologies into industrial impact and provides a unique environment for interdisciplinary collaboration across manufacturing, AI, automation, data science, energy, and digital engineering.
Appointments will be considered at either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level depending on experience, research profile, leadership trajectory, and funding track record.
About You
You will hold a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Robotics, Data Science, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline and demonstrate expertise aligned to Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing Systems research.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- AI and machine learning for manufacturing
- digital twins and virtual manufacturing systems
- intelligent automation and robotics
- manufacturing analytics and industrial data systems
- optimisation and intelligent decision-making
- software-enabled industrial systems
- smart production and next-generation manufacturing technologies
You should demonstrate the ability, or strong potential, to develop internationally recognised research through publications, collaborative projects, funding activity, and engagement with industrial and academic partners.
Candidates applying at Associate Professor level should demonstrate an established research profile and evidence of academic leadership, while Assistant Professor candidates should demonstrate strong potential to develop an independent and impactful research trajectory within a collaborative environment.
We particularly welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary working, industrial collaboration, and translating research into meaningful real-world impact.
