We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Business Operations Manager to join our team at Bowland Medical Practice. We are a well established training practice with a population of approximately 8,000 patients. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of management and strategic planning to develop the practice. As a key member of our management team, you will work closely with clinical and administrative staff as well as external stakeholders ensuring we can deliver high quality care.
Main duties of the job
The practice Business Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing business development, financial activities, governance and strategic development of the practice. The successful candidate will work closely with the partners to develop and deliver the business and financial strategy. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, ensuring the delivery of excellent patient care. The position is in collaboration with the GP partners, with protected management time and our practice manager.

Bowland Medical Practice is a well-established training practice hosting GP speciality trainees and medical students. We have six GP partners as well as employing practice nurses and allied health professionals. We have a friendly and dynamic team that is committed to providing high quality care to our local population of approximately 8,000 patients. We participate actively in research and development with RSI Level 3 accreditation. We also have in house physiotherapy, podiatry, mental health and pharmacy services.
Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the practice Business Operations Manager which may develop over time.
Organisational
- Overseeing the operations of the practice.
- Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinating the reviewing and updating of all practice policies and procedures.
- Developing, implementing and embedding an efficient business resilience plan.
- Ensuring the team reach QOF targets.
- Ensuring the practice maintains and complies with CQC regulation and registration.
- Efficiently manage projects as required to deliver new systems, service delivery and procedures to time and within agreed budgets.
- Ensure effective management of IT data systems in a secure and compliant manner.
- Deputise for the partners at internal and external meetings.
- Act as the primary point of contact for NHS(E), ICB, community services, suppliers and other external stakeholders.
- Routinely monitor practice performance.
Business Development
- Strategic leadership and practice representation within the Primary Care Network and with local stakeholder organisations.
- Identify sources of new funding for projects and/or new ways of working.
- Write bids for new funding opportunities and/or working with other partner organisations.
HR
- Maintain strong governance and adherence to best practices.
- Overseeing the financial elements of the practice, to ensure practice financial balance and resilience including budgeting, income generation, utilisation of PCN income streams etc. in conjunction with the partners.
- Ensuring all invoices and expenses are actioned with appropriate maintenance of records of accounts.
- Produce a monthly financial report for partners.
- Maintain relationship with accountancy provider.
- Deliver and manage contractual reporting with partners.
- Support the production of the Annual Report and Accounts.
- Managing contracts for service effectively inline with strategic planning priorities Premises and Equipment.
- Oversight and planning for all practice IT systems, delegating staff to act as administrators.
- Ensuring compliance with IT security and information governance.

Qualifications
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
- Formal finance or business management qualification.
- Educated to degree level in business or finance.
Experience
- Experience in managing accounting procedures, budgets and cash flow.
- Experience in workforce planning and development.
- Experience in working within a healthcare setting.
- Management of high performing teams, promoting a culture of success and development.
- Ability to deliver and evaluate strategic aims.
- GP or NHS Management experience.
