AI Engineer

Belfast (Hybrid – 3 days in office) | Full-time

At a Glance

  • Role: AI Engineer
  • Location: Belfast – Hybrid (3 days in office)
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Experience: 4+ years software engineering | 2+ years AI/ML engineering
  • Stack Highlights: Go or Java | LLMs | ML Platforms | Cloud-native
  • Domain: Applied AI within a cloud security environment

Who You'll Work For

Our client operates in the cloud security space, building intelligent systems that protect organisations at scale. They are investing heavily in applied AI – not as an experiment, but as a core part of their product and platform strategy. The engineering culture is technically rigorous, cross-functional and genuinely collaborative, with AI, security and engineering teams working in close alignment. This is a high-impact environment where the work you do shapes both the product and the platform that powers it.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll work across the full lifecycle of AI-driven systems – from platform infrastructure through to production features. Your day-to-day will span:

  • Building autonomous systems to automate complex security workflows end-to-end
  • Developing and shipping AI-driven features into live production environments
  • Contributing to an internal AI platform designed for scalable, reusable model deployment
  • Working on adaptive models that learn and evolve from real customer environments
  • Developing systems that correlate data across multiple sources to quantify and surface risk
  • Contributing to AI-driven threat detection capabilities
  • Collaborating closely with engineering, research and security teams

Your Impact

This is a role with meaningful reach. The systems you build will directly influence how security threats are detected, triaged and resolved – at scale, in real environments. You'll help shape the internal AI platform that other engineers build on, and your contributions to adaptive modelling and risk quantification will have lasting product impact. In a domain where the stakes are high, the engineering needs to match and you'll be central to making that happen.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • 4+ years of commercial software engineering experience
  • 2+ years of dedicated AI or machine learning engineering experience
  • Strong programming skills in Go or Java
  • Hands-on experience working with LLMs and modern AI frameworks
  • Experience building or contributing to ML platforms or internal AI tooling
  • Demonstrated ability to work across complex, multi-source data environments

Desirable

  • Experience in a security, threat intelligence or data-intensive product domain
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices and model lifecycle management
  • Exposure to autonomous agents, agentic workflows or tool-use patterns with LLMs
  • Experience with cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP or Azure)
  • A track record of shipping AI features into high-reliability production systems

What's In It For You

  • Work at the forefront of applied AI in a genuinely complex, high-stakes domain
  • High-impact role with direct influence over intelligent systems and platform direction
  • Collaborative environment spanning AI, engineering, research and security
  • Hybrid working with a Belfast-based team
  • Real technical challenges with real-world consequences not toy problems
