Head of Maths (Fixed Term – Maternity Cover)

Location: Redfield, Bristol (BS5)

Full‑time – Fixed Term until 31 August 2027

Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 (M1‑UPS3) + TLR 1B (£12,521)

Start date: ASAP

The Role

As Head of Maths, you will provide strategic leadership for the department, ensuring high‑quality teaching and strong outcomes for students across all key stages. You will play a central role in shaping the curriculum, supporting staff development, and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Maths department to deliver consistently high standards
  • Support, coach and develop teaching staff to enhance performance and practice
  • Plan and implement an engaging and ambitious Maths curriculum
  • Monitor student progress and use data to inform targeted interventions
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and uphold the trust’s values

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong background in Maths teaching
  • Experience in a leadership role such as Head of Department or Second in Department
  • A proven track record of raising attainment and improving outcomes
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to teamwork
  • A passion for delivering high‑quality education and supporting student success
