Assistant General Manager for Outpatient Services

An exciting opportunity for a motivated and focused Assistant General Manager to join the St.George’s Outpatient Department. The Outpatient Services are located across four sites and on a daily basis we support appointments for approximately three thousand patients. As an Assistant General Manager within Outpatients you will provide operational and strategic support to the Deputy General Manager and General Manager with a high focus on transforming outpatient services, service developments, a rapid move to digital and virtual outpatient services delivering on innovative solutions to support patient flow in outpatients, ensuring we deliver an excellent service to all our customers.
You will work closely with the Deputy General Manager, General Manager, Head of Nursing and Clinical Director supporting the delivery of new challenges within the outpatient and across the Trust. You will have involvement in financial performance and service improvement plans across the Directorate and work closely with Medical and Nursing colleagues to promote high quality patient experience throughout.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for implementing specific projects allocated by the General Manager as described within the Trust and Group Transformation Programme for Outpatient Services.
Key managerial and budgetary responsibilities. You will have your own budget that you will be accountable for and involved in identifying cost improvement programmes to support the Trusts ambitious 24/25 financial improvement plan.
Responsible for ensuring allocated services are reviewed and changes implemented effectively in order to meet its obligations to the Trust and the patients it treats.
Ensure optimum liaison and working arrangements with sponsors, stakeholders (which will include patient/client/carer representation) and external agencies where required.
Improving patient experience, quality and productivity is an explicit priority and needs to underpin all elements of initiatives undertaken.
Provide leadership and management support to staff within their areas of management as allocated by the General Manager.
Fulfil a crucial role in fostering excellent communication and working relationships with the clinical specialties and their teams.
You will be expected to cross cover the other Assistant General Manager and the Deputy General Manager during periods of leave in order to support the Directorate.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience of service review and redesign / change management
- Evidence of postgraduate study and continuous professional development
- Management or leadership qualification (e.g. Diploma in Management Studies) or equivalent
Experience
- Managerial knowledge including staff management and financial management
- Operational experience in a health service delivery environment
- Staff management experience at a senior level
- Experience of project management, process redesign and transformation tools and techniques
- Experience in using a wide variety of computer software
- Prior experience of working in an NHS/healthcare setting as a manager who has had successes in their processes and service delivery
- Experience of service re‑design and demand management
Leadership & Staff Management
- Has managed people from a wide variety of backgrounds and understands and promotes the principles of equality and diversity
- Demonstrable record of achieving change
- Awareness of impact of leadership style and impact of being a leader in a healthcare/NHS setting
- Has experience of recruitment, performance review and disciplinary processes
- Has managed a budget of over £1m or equivalent financial experience
- Experience of working with a team to reduce expenditure
- Experience of producing procedures and statistical information
- Experience of and awareness of delivery and management of cost improvement programmes
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of work procedures and practices within Outpatient Departments
- Awareness of NHS Patient Access Policy and waiting list management experience
- Knowledge of the NHS IT systems and impact on an outpatient setting
