Team Leader – Investment Zone Planning

Location: Across Kirklees

Hours: 37

Position Type: Permanent

Salary: £51,356 – £53,460 plus an additional retention payment of £4,000pa applies (subject to review in 6 months).

Additional Salary Information: You will also be entitled to a retention payment of £4,000 per year based on 37hrs per week or pro rata for hours worked. This retention payment will be split into two payments, in December and June. You become eligible for the payment after 6 months employment and successful completion of your probationary period. The payment of this retention payment is due to be reviewed in 6 months.

The role is responsible for the production of any Development Plan Documents or supporting Planning guidance associated with delivering the objectives of the Investment Zone and the Council’s Masterplan for the area and the wider Huddersfield Town Centre regeneration objectives. This will include engagement within the team of planners in the Planning Policy Group and wider Council regeneration and business and skills teams. You will work closely with Development Management colleagues to provide advice and guidance on the applications and pre-apps for schemes around Huddersfield. This role involves cross-service working with other strategy officers on a wide range of policy issues – e.g., economy, retail, housing, transport, active travel opportunities, green/blue infrastructure, and the environment – to deliver overall Council objectives and to see the Investment Zone and the wider town Huddersfield thrive.

You will also support day‑to‑day Planning Policy Group objectives, helping Team Leaders and the Group Leader deliver the emerging Local Plan with a particular emphasis on developing a town centre framework and specific planning policy tasks such as master planning and design to support the investment zone, station to stadium corridor and related town centre policies and allocations. You will ensure your projects and colleagues work efficiently and effectively and that the services provided are of a high‑quality standard, demonstrate value for money and overall have a positive effect on the lives of people within Kirklees.

Communication is vital for the effective and efficient work of the Service. You will ensure you undertake good and informative communication so that all your team(s) are aware of the Service objectives / future plans and the Council’s vision and values which impact on how our service is delivered.

You will demonstrate an ability for developing partnership working to deliver joint ambitions for the Investment Zone and good project management skills to deliver project milestones to timetable and within budget.
