Responsibilities
- Increase the number of practice assessors and supervisors in Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to support learning in practice.
- Support managers, assessors and supervisors in practice.
- Achieve sufficient high-quality placements to enable safe, effective, compassionate care to be delivered by all learners, ensuring a sustainable future for nursing and nursing associate workforce.
- Contribute to relevant study days at partnership Higher Education Institute (HEIs).
- Contribute to teaching in clinical practice; both pre‑registration and post‑registration.
- Contribute to the continuing professional development for nurses across all fields of practice (mental health/learning disabilities, adult and child), registered nursing associates, and other allied health care professionals.
- Support the provision of simulation as a teaching experience for qualified nurses and pre‑registration learners.
- Be an assessor in practice as required.
- Support learners in practice to enhance their learning experience.
- Cover West Sussex Division and support other divisions (East Sussex, Specialist, Brighton and Hove) when required, with possible travel to Surrey and other areas.
- Facilitate the provision of sufficient high‑quality clinical placements for learners.
- Act as a link between Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals Sussex, NHS Foundation Trust, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, and Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) regarding learners on NMC‑approved programmes.
- Contribute to study days at universities providing training and in‑clinical practice.
- Work within the Department of Nursing Education, Development and Professional Practice to manage pre‑registration nursing, student paramedic, student nursing associate and registered nurse degree apprenticeship placements.
- Provide strong, skilled professional leadership and support to all workforce members involved with placements.
- Develop communication networks and close working relationships with managers, practice assessors, supervisors and practice placement areas.
- Play a leading role in curriculum development, ensuring that work‑based learning, clinical need and up‑to‑date practice are included.
- Support the recruitment of internal and external candidates for nursing associate apprenticeship and nursing degree apprenticeships.
- Support NMC quality assurance monitoring and HEI external examiner and Ofsted visits to the Trust.
- Teach on relevant study days as part of the portfolio of courses delivered by NRED.
- Compile relevant collated data and reports needed to evaluate projects.
Qualifications
- Registered mental health or learning disability nurse.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- Evidence of attainment or working towards a degree‑level qualification.
- Teaching qualification or working towards attaining a teaching qualification.
- Completion of recognised practice assessors study days.
- Extensive post‑registration experience and up‑to‑date with Slip training, mental health/learning disability and autism clinical practice/management experience.
- Experience as assessor/supervisor in a clinical setting.
- Awareness of current issues in learning disability nursing.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to introduce change into the work environment.
- Knowledge of professional issues, current and future in mental health and learning disability nursing, education, training and development.
- Working knowledge of the NMC Standards of proficiency for registered nurses (2018).
- Successful candidates are normally appointed to the bottom of the pay scale unless previous NHS experience in a similar role can be evidenced.
- You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
