About the role

The position of Performance and Controls Analyst operates as part of the End‑to‑End Debt Strategy and Performance Team at British Gas, focusing on reducing the overall cost of Business Energy Debt. The analyst is responsible for delivering significant step‑changes in the effectiveness of collection controls across all debt treatments, driving deeper insight and enabling optimisation through robust, commercially focused debt management decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Periodic analysis of overdue debts to ensure timely treatment.
  • Utilise multi‑system and analytical tools to produce root‑cause analysis of stuck or slow‑moving debts.
  • Lead and collaborate with onshore teams and third parties to develop automated solutions to move accounts into active treatment.
  • Monitor, assess and demonstrate process compliance and effectiveness to maximise operating expenses and debt recovery.
  • Provide recommendations for change to strengthen controls and governance in line with debt policies.
  • Develop control reporting and KPIs, proactively identifying risks and opportunities and leading enhancements with wider teams.
  • Support business leads with ad‑hoc analysis to enable debt treatment and prevention.
  • Provide analysis and insight to tactical and strategic changes, offering counsel and challenge for balanced decision making.
  • Build strong working relationships with key internal and third‑party stakeholders to deliver effective controls and workflows.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience working within a business functional area, integrating into operations and developing control suites to drive P&L benefits.
  • Strong track record of identifying risks and opportunities and developing control frameworks to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Excellent analytical assessment skills, performing deep dives to identify root causes and leading cross‑team change.
  • Proven record of high‑value business benefits and risk mitigation.
  • Significant experience leading multi‑team collaboration to implement business change and controls.
  • Excellent analytical skills with advanced SAS/SQL proficiency, preferably Fabric and Databricks.
  • Energy industry knowledge is advantageous.
  • Experience deploying improvements in a complex organisation.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
