We are pleased to announce an opening for a dedicated and proactive B6 mental health practitioner to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CLINICAL

  • Ensure high quality CAMHS/ED assessments of children and families referred to the service.
  • Deliver therapeutic input to children and young people.
  • Work as a co‑therapist where appropriate.
  • Be responsible for and manage a defined caseload and undertake case management responsibilities.
  • Identify and develop strategies to manage risk in line with Pennine Care and CAMHS procedures and protocols.
  • Liaise with a wide range of agencies regarding individual care packages and promote awareness of CAMHS health issues within these agencies.
  • Undertake liaison and joint work with other professionals outside of the MDT.
  • Provide consultation and training on children’s emotional health, well‑being and eating disorders to professionals, including GPs, Primary Care Services, Adult Mental Health Services, Education Services and Paediatric services.
  • Engage in managerial and clinical supervision, including with appropriate consent, recording and reviewing of live clinical work.
  • Ensure collection of relevant information, data and outcome measures required by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and its commissioners.
  • Routinely monitor effectiveness of clinical work by use of Routine Outcome Measures (ROM) and, where outcomes are not improving for children and families, engage in clinical review via peer review meetings and supervision.
  • Take part in the CED‑CYP emergency duty rota to provide urgent assessment of children/young people presenting with eating disorder in line with Pennine Care protocols, advising other professionals regarding risk and working with them to develop a plan of care. This may involve evening and weekend working.

MANAGERIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Attend team, clinical, business and other meetings as required.
  • Manage own workload and time effectively.
  • Undertake accurate record keeping.
  • Provide and enter data for local information management systems.
  • Contribute to peer supervision within the CED‑CYP teams and within the wider community CAMHS.
  • Supervise other staff as appropriate, including junior staff and students.
  • Receive regular clinical and management supervision and participate in appraisal.
  • Participate in the development of education and training programmes.
  • Maintain own education and awareness of current developments in children and young people’s eating disorders.
  • In conjunction with the operational coordinator and clinical lead, ensure that appropriate supervision is available for any specialist psychotherapeutic treatment intervention offered by the post holder.

DEVELOPMENT

  • Maintain a current professional portfolio and participate in personal development and training programmes identified in the individual performance and development review.
  • Undertake personal development in line with Pennine policy.
  • Maintain professional registration requirements.

  • Attend Trust Mandatory Training and Induction Programme.
  • Participate in a formal IPDR/KSF review with manager at least every 12 months. Progress is reviewed regularly to agree new objectives.
  • Take responsibility for own professional development and be supported by the Trust.

  • Handle confidential patient information with the utmost care and confidentiality.
  • Maintain information ownership within the Trust and comply with Data Protection Act 1998.
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date clinical records in appropriate systems.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

  • Nursing, social work or equivalent health/social care qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Professional registration (NMC/HCPC/SWE).
  • Experience or training in motivational interviewing/CBT or willingness to develop.

Experience

  • Post-qualification experience in child and adolescent mental health services.
  • Professional involvement with users of mental health services, particularly children and young people with eating disorders.
  • Experience of case management of young people.
  • Experience of multi‑agency working.
  • Experience of relating to young people in a group or community setting.
  • Previous experience in a community CAMHS setting.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of mental health issues in young people.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and national policies relating to young people.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions with young people.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of eating disorders and application to children and young people.
  • Understanding of risk assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of self‑harm in relation to young people.
