Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading independent consultancy in their search for an Associate – Environmental Planning to join their growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects across sectors including large-scale regeneration, infrastructure, residential, logistics, and commercial development.

The Role

As an Associate, you will play a key role in leading the delivery of environmental planning services and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects. This position combines technical leadership, project management, and client-facing responsibilities within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

You will take ownership of projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality outputs, strong financial performance, and effective stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of environmental planning and EIA projects with minimal senior oversight
  • Manage multiple projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams
  • Oversee project finances, including budgets, WIP, invoicing, and fee management
  • Prepare fee proposals, tenders, and project programmes
  • Produce high-quality reports and develop strategic EIA approaches
  • Lead client, stakeholder, and project meetings
  • Coordinate and review EIA deliverables including screening, scoping, and assessments
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, stakeholders, and planning authorities
  • Support business development through networking, marketing, and client relationship building
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to team development initiatives

Requirements

  • Relevant degree (or higher) in Environmental Planning or a related field
  • Ideally holds or is working towards IEMA Registered EIA Practitioner and Chartered Environmentalist status
  • Strong knowledge of EIA regulations, planning processes, and relevant legislation
  • Proven experience managing project finances and making commercially sound decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant project tools
