Operations Manager

Location: Chemsford area – Salary: Upwards of £55k – Job Type: Full-time, permanent

A well-established premium food production business is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Operations Manager to oversee day‑to‑day operations across production, logistics, planning, and people management. This is a key leadership role within a growing agricultural and food business known for quality, high standards, and seasonal excellence.

The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining product quality, improving processes, and leading teams through both steady‑state operations and peak seasonal demand periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage daily operational activities across production and supply chain functions
• Drive operational efficiency, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Manage staffing, scheduling, workflow planning, and resource allocation
• Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety, and regulatory standards
• Monitor KPIs, budgets, and operational performance metrics
• Coordinate closely with senior leadership to support business objectives and growth plans
• Develop and maintain strong team culture, accountability, and communication
• Oversee seasonal operational scaling during peak trading periods
• Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and cost savings
• Manage supplier, logistics, and external contractor relationships where required

About You

• Proven experience in an Operations Manager or senior operational leadership role
• Background in food production, agriculture, FMCG, manufacturing, or supply chain operations preferred
• Strong leadership and team management capability
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, seasonal environment
• Experience managing budgets, KPIs, and operational reporting
• Knowledge of health & safety and quality compliance standards
• Hands‑on, pragmatic, and proactive approach
