Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Mildenhall, Suffolk (Onsite)

Salary: £40,000–£50,000

My client, a specialist manufacturing company based in Mildenhall, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their maintenance team. This role is responsible for maintaining production machinery, equipment, and facilities across multiple local sites, ensuring operations run efficiently and safely.

The successful candidate will play a key role in diagnosing faults, carrying out mechanical repairs, and supporting ongoing improvements to equipment reliability and maintenance processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair production machinery and ancillary equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out breakdown repairs
  • Strip down machinery to replace worn or damaged components (e.g. bearings, conveyor belts)
  • Support external service engineers and contractors during site visits
  • Maintain facilities across multiple local sites
  • Record and track maintenance activities using maintenance management software
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and cost reductions
  • Provide general maintenance support across the wider business when required
  • Requirements

    • 5–10 years’ experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a production or manufacturing environment
    • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience dismantling and repairing machinery
    • Experience using general workshop machinery and tools
    • Welding and fabrication skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
    • Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal hours when required
