Chief Nursing Officer

The Chief Nursing Officer is a key member of the Executive Team and Board, responsible for providing strategic professional leadership across nursing, allied health professions, quality and regulatory standards.
The role works collaboratively with executive and operational colleagues to ensure services are safe, effective, responsive and continuously improving. The Chief Nursing Officer will also act as a visible professional leader across the organisation, championing inclusion, psychological safety, staff voice and compassionate care.
Main Duties of the Role
- Provide executive leadership for nursing, AHPs, quality and risk management
- Lead professional standards and quality governance across the Trust
- Promote compassionate, inclusive and values-led leadership
- Ensure delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services
- Lead safeguarding, patient experience and quality improvement
- Support workforce wellbeing, professional development and staff engagement
- Build strong partnerships across the Integrated Care System and the West Midlands region
- Provide assurance to the Board regarding professional standards, quality and regulatory compliance

- Contribute to the overall strategic leadership of the Trust
- Support development and delivery of organisational strategy
- Lead the nursing, AHP and quality agenda across the organisation

- Act as the executive professional lead for nursing and allied health professions
- Promote professional standards, accountability and development
- Ensure professional practice frameworks are embedded and maintained
- Support workforce development, leadership and succession planning

- Lead the Trust’s quality governance framework
- Ensure effective systems for patient safety and clinical assurance
- Provide Board assurance regarding quality and safety performance
- Lead learning from incidents, complaints and patient experience
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements
Safeguarding and Patient Experience
- Provide executive leadership for safeguarding across the organisation
- Champion patient and carer involvement and co-production
- Promote trauma-informed and person-centred approaches
- Ensure patient voice informs improvement and service delivery
Workforce and Culture
- Promote compassionate and inclusive leadership
- Support staff wellbeing, engagement and psychological safety

- Support delivery of the HEART cultural framework
Partnership Working
- Build effective relationships across the Integrated Care System
- Represent the Trust externally on nursing, quality and patient safety matters

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (MR or LD) qualification
- Current NMC registration
- Significant senior nursing leadership experience
- Board-level experience
- Masters Degree
- Leadership Qualification

- Significant experience within mental health/LD/autism/community services
- Experience leading quality governance
- Experience of organisational transformation
- Experience of partnership working across systems
- Experience leading cultural improvement
- Experience working with regulators
