Green Lizard Estates is a privately owned 500 arce Estate on the North Bank of the River Tees. Previously ICI Chemical Works on North Tees, the Estate has had long-term objectives for future energy generation, energy storage, data, production of green chemicals and fuels, which are each now coming to fruition. Green Lizard Estates is part of the Green Lizard Group owned and managed by the Chairman who is based in Newcastle.
Green Lizard Group is a delivery focused organisation with an emphasis on innovative technologies, energy generation from gas/nuclear, properties, and commercial land use.
Job Summary
The Director of Estates will support the Chairman and divisional CEO’s in strategic and operational leadership and management for the site. The role will require the candidate to lead, develop and implement a long-term estate strategy that aligns with the company vision, capital investment plans and future development.
Responsible for capital projects, facility operations, environmental sustainability, compliance with statutory health and safety regulations, and managing budgets to ensure a safe, efficient, and functional environment whilst leading and managing daily operations, maintenance, security, tenant relations, service contracts ensuring health and safety compliance, maximising income generating projects and leases and ensuring operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Development
- In conjunction with Chairman, divisional CEO’s and wider team leaders create, plan and deliver a strategic plan for the Green Lizard Estate.
Operational Management
- Lead and manage planned and reactive maintenance: to ensure smooth running of daily operations including security, waste management, etc.
- Lead and manage maintenance schedules for all estate infrastructure; roads, rail, fencing, waste, landscaping, water, electrical services, and pipework corridors.
- Lead, manage, report on environmental assessments and compliance as required for different elements of the estate – Bore holes, water sampling.
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team.
Commercial
- Review, maintain and optimise all current leases and contracts, including cross charging of shared maintenance expenditures.
- Development of collaborative relationships with existing and potential tenants and neighbours.
- Horizon scanning for new opportunities for the estate or opportunities locally for expansion in synergetic industries.
- Work with legal team and CFO to ensure robust contracts, leases, SLA are in use and database is maintained
- Manage, lead and document tender process for all tasks on site to ensure best value for money, with high standards and operational efficiency
- Work closely with CFO to set and manage budgets
Governance
- Maintain safe and healthy work environment by leading, establishing, monitoring, and auditing standards and procedures through a well-developed governance framework of SOP/ policies/ business continuity plans/ emergency preparedness.
- Identifying estate-related risks and ensure robust risk management strategies are in place.
- Ensure audits are completed to ensure evidence of compliance with legal regulations.
- Maintain and expand ISO compliance
- Ensure process for H&S management
- Ensure compliance with Fire regulations
Relationships
- Primary contact for tenants, handling enquires, complaints and ensure GLE delivers against its contractual obligations.
- Development of strong relationships with our legal and planning advisors on land and leases.
- Act as key point of contact for all contractors’, visitors to the estate.
- Build relationships with internal teams, local businesses, local and national authorities and the public.
Special working conditions
- Potential for UK and overseas travel and subsequently may require on occasion overnight stay.
