This role sits within a well-established engineering team supporting a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing operation.
The opportunityDue to continued operational demands, our client is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to take ownership of PLC, HMI, SCADA and instrumentation systems across the site.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will play a critical role in ensuring control systems are safe, compliant, reliable and optimised for performance. You will be involved in both planned improvement activity and reactive fault-finding to minimise downtime and maintain production output.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining, developing and safeguarding PLC, HMI and SCADA systems (primarily Siemens and Wonderware)
- Fault-finding and troubleshooting control, instrumentation and process systems
- Calibration, testing and ongoing compliance of instrumentation
- Ensuring systems meet health & safety and regulatory requirements
- Managing software backups, disaster recovery and software licensing
- Liaising with stores, procurement, suppliers and external support partners
- Providing technical support during breakdowns and supporting maintenance teams as required
- Contributing to continuous improvement projects and mentoring engineers or apprentices
This is a day-based role (Monday–Friday) offering technical variety, responsibility and the opportunity to influence site-wide reliability and performance.
About youYou will be a technically strong Engineer with experience in a manufacturing environment and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
You will ideally bring:
- Proven experience with PLC, HMI and SCADA systems (Siemens / Wonderware preferred)
- Electrical or electronic engineering qualifications
- Strong understanding of instrumentation operation, testing and calibration
- Working knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations
- Experience with servo drive systems, ATEX and intrinsically safe equipment
- Confidence working in regulated manufacturing environments
- Excellent fault-finding, analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
- The ability to work independently, plan workloads and make sound decisions
- A flexible, reliable and committed approach to engineering support
