Clinical Research Fellow Gynaecological Oncology

This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals who want to pursue a career in Gynaecological Oncology. Based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre (NGOC) offers extensive clinical and specialised surgical skills, as well as opportunities for clinical research. The centre is an ESGO Accredited Centre of Excellence for Ovarian Cancer.
This 12‑month post, extendable depending on research projects, requires the successful applicant to lead clinical research projects that will culminate in relevant publications.
Main duties of the job
This role is split 50:50 between research and clinical commitments. Duties include:
- Delivering inpatient and outpatient services, including theatre sessions, ward-based care and outpatient clinics.
- Attending regional Multidisciplinary Team meetings and collaborating with clinicians across the region.
- Participating in a full shift on‑call rota with other resident doctors.
- Carrying out clinical research, data collection, analysis and dissemination of findings.
Person Specification
Skills – Knowledge and Aptitude
- Ability to prioritise workload and use initiative.
- Awareness of own limitations and when to seek advice.
- Compliance with GMC’s Good Medical Practice.
- Proficiency with IT systems.
- Evidence of research development.
Qualifications and Training
- MRCOG Part 1.
- Valid GMC registration with a licence to practice in the UK.
- Indication of career path and progression towards higher medical qualification.
- MRCOG or equivalent.
Experience
- Formal and informal teaching experience.
- Experience in O&G at senior SHO/ST level.
- Evidence of clinical audit.
- Colposcopy experience / BSCCP accreditation or equivalent.
- Research and teaching experience.
- Interest in pursuing a career in Gynaecological Oncology.
