Senior Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine (ST3 equivalent)

We are seeking a Clinical Fellow at ST3+ level to deliver excellent clinical care in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at St George’s Hospital.
This represents an opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join a dynamic clinical team in a progressive and innovative acute medical unit. The unit has 51 beds, including 14 in a level 2 area equivalent to a medical HDU, and a recently renewed ambulatory area.
The Clinical Fellows will be contributing to the work of the AMU-based team, including assessment of patients on the AMU, AAA, and in A&E, care of in‑patients and attendance at Acute Medicine clinics.
The appointee will join a team of 14 SpR-level doctors, 16 SHO-level doctors and 6 FY1s, working closely with 16 consultants who provide support on the unit between 08:00 and 22:00.
Opportunities to develop other areas of interest include specialty clinics (subject to approval), teaching of under‑ and post‑graduates, participation in service improvement projects and completion of a Postgraduate Certificate in healthcare education.
Part‑time and flexible working hours are supported.
Main duties of the job
- Perform clinical work on the AMU, including first doctor to see patients presenting to a busy urban emergency department, managing patients on the ward and participating in Acute Medicine clinics.
- Work closely with the admitting general medical team and multidisciplinary team, supervising the work of more junior staff.
- Carry out administrative duties on the AMU such as checking radiology reports and microbiology results, and contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service.
- Share the running of multidisciplinary team meetings with the consultants for Acute Medicine.
- Contribute to teaching of medical students and junior doctors, and potentially teaching specialist nurses and physician associates.
- Undertake audits and undertake clinical research projects as interests allow.
Qualifications
- ALS or equivalent.
- MRCP.
Experience
- At least 6 months experience in a medical specialty at higher level (e.g., SpR).
- Appropriate career progression.
- Publications.
