Community Consultant Pediatrician

Location: Thurrock Community Hospital, Long Lane, Grays, RM16 2PX (Integrated Child Health Service, Gifford House)

Type: Full‑time substantive post – 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). Flexible working including job share, part‑time and remote sessions considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior medical support and direct input on clinical cases to the community paediatric team.
  • Supervise and guide the team, including 0.8 WTE Consultant Paediatrician and 1.8 WTE Specialist Grade Doctor.
  • Work directly with babies, children and young people and their families, liaising with external health providers and acute hospitals.
  • Participate in a daytime on‑call rota (9 am–5 pm) for child protection medical examinations.
  • Develop and maintain links with local acute trusts, especially the paediatric department at Basildon University Hospital.
  • Support team and trust values, collaborate with health and social care professionals and contribute to service improvement.

Qualifications

  • MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • On the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at interview.
  • Accreditation in Community Paediatrics (CCT/CCST) or equivalent.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of General Professional Training in paediatrics.
  • 3 years of Higher Specialist Training, including 2 years in Community Paediatrics, or equivalent competencies.
  • Valid BLS training.

Additional Information

  • No on‑call requirement at night.
  • Full‑time collaborative team of over 30 community paediatricians across North East London Foundation Trust.
