Position Overview
As a Senior Occupational Health Nurse Advisor you will play a pivotal role in assisting the Occupational Health Unit Lead and the Force Medical Advisor to provide an occupational health service, promoting and maintaining the health and safety of our workforce. You will collaborate with employees, management and stakeholders to implement effective occupational health programmes, ensure compliance with regulatory standards and foster a culture of well‑being within the organisation.
This full‑time opportunity provides a hybrid working arrangement, requiring a minimum of 60 % on‑site attendance each week. Our sites are based across police premises throughout the force area (including locations in Portishead, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Keynsham, Bristol & South Gloucestershire). The role will require regular travel between these locations, so a willingness and ability to travel is essential.
Responsibilities
- Manage and support a team of Occupational Health Nurse Advisors and an Occupational Health Nurse.
- Manage your own complex caseload.
- Coordinate and conduct health surveillance and Hep B clinics across the force area, including pre‑employment screenings and periodic health check‑ups.
- Be a productive member of the multidisciplinary senior OH team.
- Prepare and review Occupational Health policies and procedures.
- Represent the department and constabulary at a variety of meetings across the organisation and with external partners.
- Deputise for the OH Unit Lead as required.
- Lead on workplace streams such as working groups, Cority, Oscar Kilo standards or similar.
- Take part in multidisciplinary triage of referrals into the department and allocate them appropriately.
- Provide expert guidance on occupational health issues and support employees in managing their health conditions, including redeployment.
- Collaborate with HR, safety teams and management to implement proactive measures for injury prevention and workplace health promotion.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse who holds a degree or equivalent in Occupational Health.
- Experience working as a Senior Occupational Health Nurse Advisor is advantageous.
- In‑depth knowledge of occupational health regulations, standards and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in using occupational health software such as Cority and electronic health record systems is ideal.
- Ability to travel around the force area.
- 3‑year checkable history in the UK (i.e., resident in the UK for the last 3 years).

Flexible Working
Blended Role – you will have the opportunity to work from home alongside a secondary work location at a police premises. The successful candidate will discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
