Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – Equity stake in a small/growing business

Prime Residential & Fit‑Out | Fully hybrid / Remote | Equity

This probably isn’t for people who want a nice, safe corporate role with 14 approval layers, three TEAMS calls about one variation, and a spreadsheet called “Final_Final_v27”. This is a small contractor that has been around for just under 20 years, delivering high‑end residential and light commercial fit‑out projects across London and the Home Counties.

Projects range from roughly £300k – £2m with a longer‑term target turnover of £10m – but profit and quality matter more than pretending turnover is a personality trait. They’re looking for someone commercially strong who understands the numbers side of construction properly: QS, estimating and some contracts management (bonus). Ideally someone who can cover multiple areas, though they’re open‑minded on structure for the right person.

The owner still has his hands in surveying & estimating and wants someone capable enough to help take that weight off properly. Besides that, they need someone who will be part of the company, has a big say, wants to bounce ideas, and help drive things forward.

The role

  • Cost planning, valuations, variations and reporting
  • Tendering and procurement
  • Subcontractor management
  • Commercial oversight across multiple projects
  • Working closely with site teams, clients, architects and directors
  • Helping improve systems and processes as the business grows

What they want

  • Good construction knowledge
  • Residential refurb / prime residential / fit‑out experience
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Someone proactive and hands‑on
  • Able to manage multiple jobs without falling apart because two phones rang at once
  • Comfortable working remotely but still part of a close‑knit team

  • Several staff with 15+ years’ service
  • In‑house joinery workshop in West London
  • Typically have 2–5 projects running at once
  • Hybrid/remote working with weekly/monthly meetings
