We are looking for experienced Combat Systems Engineers with a background in the maritime sector, specifically working on surface fleet ship weapons systems. This role will be delivered on a hybrid working model, with 2 days per week based in Bristol. **Role** – Combat Systems Engineer **Location** – Bristol **Role Type -** 12 month contract **Rate -** £50.00 per hour Inside IR35 **Essential Requirements**Candidates must demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status in a relevant discipline, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience at Chartered level; + Alternatively, candidates who are not Chartered must demonstrate: – At least 7 years’ relevant professional experience, and – Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) and recent innovation in delivered work.* A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in warship electric propulsion systems, particularly for surface combatants.* Demonstrated capability in: + Translating customer requirements and operational needs into engineering design solutions + Applying and exploiting Defence Standards to define and shape design elements**Preferred Experience and Skills**Candidates should ideally possess the following:* Recent experience (within the last 5 years) in: + Naval ship electric propulsion design studies + Ship acquisition programmes involving design activities* Experience with Integrated Full Electric Propulsion (IFEP) architectures, including: + Power requirement estimation + Propulsion and manoeuvring systems + Evaluation of propulsion types, layouts, machinery types, and spatial arrangements* Experience working with stakeholders to: + Understand operational and technical requirements + Develop high-level system requirements aligned to user needs and constraints* Knowledge and practical experience of electric propulsion trade-offs, including: + Cost, weight, and design margins + Reliability and availability + Crew and maintenance requirements + Performance and degradation characteristics + Technical risks and associated mitigation strategies* Proven ability to: + Identify, assess, and manage technical risks and issues + Work effectively within multi-disciplinary, multi-organisation teams on large, complex projects* Strong report-writing capability, including: + Producing clear, structured, and high-quality technical reports + Communicating findings, conclusions, and recommendations effectively within tight deadlines**About NRL** The NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life.
