Consultant Oncologist
Closing date: 16 June 2026.
The role expands the Trust’s current team of ten substantive Consultant Medical Oncologists and four visiting Clinical Oncologists at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
Main Duties
This will be a 10‑part‑time full‑time post, with flexible part‑time options available.
Responsibilities include inpatient oncology ward care on the Consultant of the Week rota, out‑of‑hours on‑call duties, travel to multiple sites, and coordination of clinical care as the focal point for oncology queries. The rotation schedule will be 1:9, later decreasing to 1:10 or 1:11 as new postholders commence.
Applicants must be registered with the General Medical Council Specialist Register (or within six months of admission if in training), and all other doctors must hold the GMC Specialist Register and a valid Licence to Practice.
Qualifications & Experience
- MRCP or equivalent
- Specialist registration in Oncology (or within six months of being admitted to the register for trainees)
- Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practice
- High level of clinical experience and competence in oncology
- Significant minor oncology procedures experience and postgraduate qualifications that advance departmental needs
- Understanding of NHS current issues
- Attendance at a recognised management course
- Ability to lead and work with multidisciplinary teams
Teaching, Audit and Research
Experience and enthusiasm for teaching postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff.
Academic achievements and publications.
Training and attendance in clinical and educational supervision and teaching courses.
Knowledge of audit principles, participation in audit projects, and critical appraisal skills.
Research methodology knowledge and willingness to work in multidisciplinary, integrated teams.
Communication, empathy, and ability to manage high‑pressure situations.
Organisational skills for prioritising and coordinating workload.
Flexibility to deliver clinically effective, cost‑effective care.
