Consultant Urologist

Applicants are invited for a Consultant Urologist at University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust, based primarily at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester. The successful candidate will also have sessions at other hospitals within the Trust and will be involved in providing core urology and the management of urological emergencies.

We are looking for a Urological Surgeon specializing in Functional and Reconstructive Urology, with expertise in Robotic Reconstructive Surgery, the insertion of Artificial Urinary Sphincters and Sacral Nerve Stimulation, and independent practice in HoLEP and Ureteroscopy.

Main duties of the job

Assisting the department recover from the Pandemic backlog. The post holder would be encouraged to actively participate in this, with particular focus on the Category 2 waiting list for stone disease and bladder outflow surgery for grossly enlarged prostates (over 100cc).

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

  • To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient elective and non-elective surgical urological service
  • To undertake and lead ward rounds
  • To undertake and lead outpatient clinics
  • To support development of one-stop and virtual clinics
  • To undertake and lead day case and inpatient operating lists
  • To provide, when required, supervision and training of staff, including appraisal and assessment
  • To help develop the urology service with the other consultants — particularly the functional and reconstructive urology services, attracting regional work
  • To contribute to the teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates in medicine and surgery as well as other healthcare workers.

Person Specification

Clinical Skills and Experience

  • Independent practice in Ureteroscopy, HoLEP and complex Functional Urology
  • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
  • Expertise in Robotic Functional and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Expertise in SNS and AUS placement
  • Independent Ureteroscopic practice

Experience/Qualifications

  • FRC/MRC Urology – e.g. FRCS, MRCP, etc. or its recognised equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. If trained in the UK, must also have a Certificate of Completion Training (CCT) in Urology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date
  • Higher Degree

Knowledge

  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty

Organisation and Planning

  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
  • Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended

Teaching Skills

  • Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
  • Recognised teaching qualification
