Project Manager – Highways

Location: Kearsley / Greater Manchester

Type: Permanent

A well-established civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of highways and associated civil engineering schemes across the North West.

The business has a long-standing presence in the region and works with a range of local authorities, utility providers and major infrastructure clients through long-term frameworks and repeat client relationships. This is a strong opportunity for someone looking to join a stable contractor with a healthy pipeline of regional work and clear progression opportunities.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing highways and civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring schemes are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.

Projects will typically range from £500k to £5m and may include highways construction, drainage, excavation, concreting, groundworks and associated infrastructure works.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong communication with clients, design teams, subcontractors, site teams and internal departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of highways and civil engineering projects from start to finish
  • Oversee health & safety, environmental and quality compliance
  • Lead and coordinate site teams and subcontractors
  • Manage programme, cost control, reporting and project performance
  • Support contract administration and commercial processes
  • Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with NEC contracts, CDM regulations and company procedures
  • Identify and resolve project issues quickly and effectively
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality and delivery across all schemes

Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering highways and associated civil engineering works
  • Background in excavation, drainage, concreting, groundworks and infrastructure projects
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or project management role
  • HNC, HND or degree in a construction-related discipline
  • CSCS Gold Card
  • SMSTS 5-Day
  • First Aid at Work
  • Temporary Works Supervisor accreditation
  • NRSWA Supervisor and/or Lantra 12D accreditation
  • SEATS qualification
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and NEC forms of contract
  • Full UK driving licence
