Job Title: Programme Technical Manager (Water/Wastewater)

Location: Thames Water Region (Hybrid – 2–3 days office/site)

Salary: Up to £89,000 + £5,800 Car Allowance

Shift Type: Monday – Friday (36 hours)

The Opportunity

We are supporting a major UK infrastructure organisation in appointing two Programme Technical Manager to lead the delivery of large-scale water and wastewater treatment programmes valued between £500m – £1bn.

This is a senior leadership role with real influence—shaping technical strategy, driving performance across multi-disciplinary teams, and delivering critical infrastructure that supports long-term environmental and community resilience.

If you are experienced in complex programme delivery and thrive in a strategic, high-impact environment, this role offers both scale and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop multi-disciplinary engineering teams, from junior engineers through to principal level
  • Take ownership of technical delivery across major infrastructure programmes from concept through to handover
  • Ensure projects are delivered to time, cost, quality, and safety expectations
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, contractors, and consultants to manage risk and drive outcomes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, partners, and regulatory bodies
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice across programme delivery
  • Support strategic planning including business cases and technical project briefs

Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with relevant professional membership
  • Strong background in technical leadership within infrastructure, construction, or engineering environments
  • Proven experience delivering complex, multi-year programmes
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness
  • Experience with risk/value management across the full project lifecycle
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks impacting infrastructure delivery
  • Water sector experience advantageous but not essential
