Senior Design Manager – Data Centre Projects – Newcastle | Hybrid Working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Design Manager to join a leading international MEP engineering consultancy delivering major data centre and mission critical projects across the UK and Europe.

This role offers the opportunity to work on technically complex, high-value developments within a fast-growing sector, supporting the delivery of innovative and sustainable engineering solutions for global clients.

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading multidisciplinary design activities, managing stakeholder relationships, and supporting the successful delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion.

The Role

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams across major data centre projects
  • Manage the design delivery process from concept through to project completion
  • Coordinate consultants, subcontractors, and internal engineering teams
  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with programme, budget, quality, and technical requirements
  • Maintain strong client-facing relationships and stakeholder engagement
  • Monitor design progress and identify technical risks and coordination issues
  • Chair design coordination and project meetings
  • Ensure compliance with project procedures, QA standards, and industry regulations
  • Collaborate closely with project delivery and commercial teams
  • Support technical problem solving and design development activities
  • Mentor and support junior team members
  • Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the business

Requirements

  • Degree qualified within Engineering, Building Services, Construction, or a related discipline
  • Strong experience within an MEP consultancy, engineering consultancy, or mission critical environment
  • Previous experience delivering data centre or complex infrastructure projects
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams on large-scale developments
  • Strong understanding of project delivery, design coordination, and commercial management
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within fast-paced project environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project coordination software
  • Strong organisational and technical management capabilities

Desirable Experience

  • Chartered status or working towards professional accreditation
  • Experience working on large-scale or international mission critical projects
  • Knowledge of BIM and digital engineering coordination tools
