About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Interim Head of Housing to provide leadership and guidance to a local authority’s housing department. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior housing professional with extensive experience in local government to drive operational excellence, ensure compliance with statutory duties, and deliver high-quality services for tenants and residents. The role is fully remote, with occasional visits to council offices as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational management of housing services, including housing needs, lettings, homelessness, and property management.
  • Develop and implement housing strategies, policies, and plans aligned with local authority priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and best practice in housing management.
  • Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Advise elected members and senior management on housing issues, risks, and opportunities.
  • Monitor service performance, delivering reports and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Drive innovation and transformation projects to improve efficiency, resident satisfaction, and service delivery.

Essential Experience:

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior housing role within a local authority or public sector housing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, policy, and best practice.
  • Experience managing complex projects and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrable track record in delivering service improvements and strategic housing initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively with elected members, senior leadership, and external partners.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in interim or consultancy roles within local government.
  • Familiarity with housing transformation, digital service delivery, or large-scale change management.
