Commercial Lead
Infrastructure Programme | Bury St Edmunds
We’re supporting the appointment of a Commercial Lead to join a major infrastructure programme in the Bury St Edmunds area, currently valued at circa £269m across 4-5 live packages, with the wider programme expected to grow to around £3bn over the next 12-18 months.
This is a senior leadership role within a growing programme environment, offering the opportunity to take ownership of a complex commercial function as the scale and delivery requirements continue to evolve.
The Role
As Commercial Lead, you’ll provide commercial leadership across the project, ensuring effective management of contracts, commercial controls and package delivery across multiple workstreams.
Initially overseeing 4-5 packages, you’ll also line manage a team of 6-8 Quantity Surveyors, supporting performance, consistency and commercial best practice across the programme.
The role will require regular site presence in the Bury St Edmunds area and would suit someone comfortable operating closely with delivery teams and stakeholders in a live infrastructure environment.
Responsibilities
- Providing commercial leadership across a major infrastructure programme
- Managing and coordinating multiple concurrent work packages
- Leading commercial governance, reporting and contract administration activities
- Managing NEC contracts and ensuring commercial compliance across delivery teams
- Supporting programme growth and helping shape commercial strategy as the project scales
- Line managing and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors
- Building strong relationships with project stakeholders, contractors and delivery partners
- Supporting risk management, forecasting and cost control activities
- Maintaining a collaborative presence across project and site teams
What We’re Looking For
- Strong infrastructure project experience within major programmes
- Proven NEC contract experience is essential
- Previous experience leading commercial teams within complex environments
- Ability to manage multiple packages and stakeholders simultaneously
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Utilities or energy sector experience would be advantageous, though not essential
- Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Professional membership (RICS or similar) preferred
