The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Lab Technician / Refrigeration Engineer to join a specialist R&D and testing environment focused on the development and performance testing of commercial refrigeration systems.
This role would suit someone with strong refrigeration knowledge who enjoys practical engineering work, problem-solving, and supporting the development of innovative products within a technical laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out performance and reliability testing on commercial refrigerated equipment
- Support prototype assembly work including brazing, pipework, and refrigeration system builds
- Ensure safe refrigerant handling in line with FGAS regulations
- Work closely with engineering and design teams to support product development and performance improvements
- Follow recognised industry testing standards and procedures
- Record, analyse, and report test data accurately
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory test equipment and instrumentation
- Assist with continuous improvement activities within the test facility
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience within refrigeration engineering or refrigeration testing
- Strong understanding of refrigeration systems and components
- FGAS certification (or equivalent)
- Experience with brazing and mechanical assembly
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills with a collaborative approach
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within an R&D, laboratory, or product testing environment
- Knowledge of refrigeration testing standards and procedures
- Familiarity with data acquisition or automated test systems
- Understanding of energy efficiency and eco-design regulations
- HNC/HND or Degree in Refrigeration, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
