A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Costs Lawyer or Costs Partner / Head of Costs to join a highly respected national law firm, during a significant period of growth. This role offers far more than a traditional technical costs position — it presents the chance to become a key figure in expanding and strengthening the firm’s London presence within a thriving and well-established Costs practice.
The successful candidate will join a nationally recognised team known for handling complex, high-value costs matters across a broad range of litigation areas. With strong existing infrastructure, a collaborative culture, and continued investment in growth, the firm is seeking an experienced individual who is ready to take the next major step in their career.
This opportunity would suit a commercially minded Costs Solicitor or qualified Costs Lawyer who enjoys both the technical side of costs litigation and the relationship-building aspects of growing a successful practice. There is genuine long-term progression attached to the role, including the opportunity to help establish and lead a London-based offering over time.
The Opportunity
Working often within central London while remaining closely connected with the wider national team, you will play a pivotal role in developing the firm’s profile and client relationships within the London market.
The role combines a high-quality caseload of complex costs matters with a significant focus on business development, networking, and strategic growth initiatives. You will work alongside senior leadership and act as a key representative for the department in London, helping to strengthen existing relationships while identifying and developing new opportunities.
The role will be split between costs fee earning, business development and operational duties.

Key Responsibilities
- Managing a specialist caseload of complex and high-value contentious costs matters
- Advising on a broad range of technical costs issues with minimal supervision
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and referrers within the London market
- Supporting wider business development and growth initiatives
- Working closely with senior leadership on strategic expansion plans
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members where appropriate
- Acting as a senior representative of the Costs team within the London legal market
Desirable experience
- Experience with Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) matters
- Existing relationships or profile within the London costs market
- Previous involvement in strategic growth or business development initiatives
