MI Select is supporting a leading UK specialist motor insurer with the appointment of a Senior Motor Underwriter to join its Motor Innovation team.

This is a highly commercial, broker-facing underwriting role focused on specialist and emerging motor risks, including autonomous vehicle exposures, peer-to-peer car leasing, e-scooter delivery fleets and other evolving mobility products.

The role would suit an experienced technical motor underwriter who is confident in manual underwriting, broker trading, pricing discussions, negotiation and underwriting appetite development. You will play a key part in helping the business build a substantial and profitable portfolio, working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders across underwriting, pricing and product.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Underwriting complex and emerging specialist motor risks on a manual basis
  • Helping shape underwriting appetite across autonomous vehicle, peer-to-peer leasing, e-scooter delivery fleet and related mobility products
  • Supporting the growth of a profitable specialist motor portfolio
  • Working closely with brokers on trading discussions, negotiation and risk selection
  • Contributing to pricing discussions using underwriting judgement, market knowledge and portfolio insight
  • Monitoring broker performance, risk quality and portfolio trends
  • Working with pricing, product and operational teams to refine propositions and improve performance
  • Providing technical underwriting input on casualty, injury and motor liability exposures

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong technical motor underwriting experience
  • Experience across commercial motor, fleet, specialist motor, non-standard motor or related product areas
  • Confidence underwriting manually rather than relying purely on automated rules
  • Commercial broker-facing experience, ideally including trading and negotiation
  • A good understanding of pricing, appetite, risk selection and portfolio performance
  • Exposure to casualty, bodily injury, motor liability or complex claims considerations would be valuable
  • Experience with fleet, courier, delivery, taxi, self-drive hire, schemes or emerging mobility risks would be highly relevant
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to influence brokers and internal stakeholders

This is a strong opportunity for a motor underwriting professional who wants to move into a broader, more commercially visible role, helping shape a growing portfolio in one of the most interesting areas of the specialist motor market.
