This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to join a well-established in-house legal team supporting a large and purpose-driven organisation.
The legal team plays a central role in enabling the business to operate efficiently, manage risk effectively and deliver on its strategic priorities. As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice across a broad range of commercial matters, while partnering closely with senior stakeholders across Technology, Marketing, Fundraising and other corporate functions.
The role offers a varied workload, significant stakeholder exposure and the chance to lead on high-value and strategically important projects.
Contract Type: 12-month fixed-term contract
Location: London (hybrid working with 1–2 days per week in the office)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clear, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across a wide range of business and operational matters.
- Act as a trusted legal adviser to key functions, with a particular focus on:
- Technology – advising on supplier contracts, software and digital projects.
- Marketing, Fundraising and Partnerships – advising on commercial partnerships and related agreements.
- Draft, review and negotiate a variety of complex commercial contracts.
- Lead and manage legal matters independently, identifying risk and escalating issues where appropriate.
- Support stakeholders with contract management, regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and gain a detailed understanding of business priorities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the legal team to share knowledge and strengthen team capability.
- Assist with legal process improvements, template development and wider legal strategy initiatives.
- Manage external counsel where specialist advice is required.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England & Wales (or equivalent jurisdiction).
- Significant experience in commercial and contract law, gained in private practice and/or in-house.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills across a range of complex commercial agreements.
- Good working knowledge of data protection law and general regulatory compliance issues.
- Experience supporting technology, procurement, marketing or partnership teams is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to manage a busy and varied workload with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound commercial judgment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience advising senior leadership.
- Highly organised and able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
