We are delighted to offer a highly motivated, ambitious individual the opportunity to join our well-integrated Endourology team at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post commences 1 September 2026 for 12 months.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical care and be trained in endourology and advanced stone surgery within the Department of Urology, concentrating on the endoscopic management of stones and upper tract TCC. They will also undertake clinical research with the aim of presenting and publishing their work at professional meetings, and will be involved in teaching, audits and service development.
Job responsibilities
- Perform regular sessions in the dedicated endourology/stone theatre with consultant trainers.
- Participate in Stone MDT meetings and other MDT/meetings as per the trainee’s personal development plan.
- Gain exposure to ESWL and receive training in its delivery if desired.
- Manage stone patients in an outpatient setting and develop skills to run an independent clinic.
- Participate in general urology theatre lists as required.
- Receive optional training in bladder outflow surgery and minimally invasive upper tract surgery.
- Contribute to administrative tasks that support clinical training, including service development projects such as patient leaflets and pathway reviews.
- Engage in research activities including leadership of local audit projects, collaboration with Nephrology on stone biochemistry studies, national BAUS projects, and grant application assistance.
- Present work at regional, national and international meetings and publish findings to support career progression.
- Deliver teaching and training, both clinical (theatre teaching, foundation and core trainee teaching) and non‑clinical (simulation, GP and community worker sessions, and national courses). Learners will also participate in regional FRCS teaching courses and cadaveric training at the Newcastle Surgical Training Centre.
- Adapt to the Trust’s flexibility policy, which may include evening or weekend working when clinically required.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Primary Medical Qualification
- Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months
- Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Urology
- Within 6 months of or post CCT
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
- Good history and examination skills
- Ability to formulate a working diagnosis and order appropriate investigations
- Competence in relevant image interpretation
- Insight into appropriate escalation to senior colleagues
Management and Administration Experience
- Capacity to run a service and participate in management processes
- Commitment to share professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities with the Trust
- Effective communication with patients and colleagues
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and audit
