Solution Architect (Public Sector / Government Programme)

SFIA Level: 5/6

Location: Telford (2 days per week initially, reducing to 2 days every 2 weeks once established)

Duration: 6 months

Rate: £625-£675 per day

Clearance: SC Eligible

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to join a large-scale public sector transformation programme. This role will play a key part in driving solution design and delivery across a complex application modernisation initiative.

You will take ownership of end-to-end solution architecture, working closely with delivery teams and stakeholders to ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and successfully transitioned into live service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the solution design throughout the full delivery lifecycle
  • Lead application modernisation initiatives within the wider programme
  • Drive the development and documentation of high‑quality solution designs
  • Ensure all solutions align with architecture governance and best practices
  • Collaborate with agile delivery teams and architects across all phases
  • Act as the technical authority, working through design decisions and challenges
  • Engage confidently with senior stakeholders (internal & external)
  • Manage relationships with vendors and third‑party providers
  • Oversee technical problem resolution and ensure delivery aligns to agreed specifications

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect within complex programmes
  • Strong background in application modernisation and cloud migration
  • Experience working with both legacy systems and modern cloud ecosystems
  • Knowledge of technologies such as AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, HELM, Java, JavaScript, Oracle, MySQL
  • Experience working in agile environments across full delivery lifecycles
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to act as a trusted advisor
  • Experience working within public sector or regulated environments (desirable)
