Job Description:

Teesdale Community Resources (TCR) is seeking a charismatic and values‑led Charity Director to lead the organisation into a new phase of growth and development. TCR is a well‑established charity at the heart of the Teesdale community, delivering a wide range of activities, services and opportunities that promote wellbeing, inclusion, creativity, connection and reduce rural isolation.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Direction & Governance

    • Lead the development of the organisation’s Strategic Plan, including facility and infrastructure development.
    • Translate agreed strategies into actionable operational plans to achieve TCR’s mission.
    • Act as the primary communication link between the Board of Trustees and staff.
    • Ensure effective governance structures are in place and provide comprehensive reports to the Board regarding performance, risk, finance and HR.
    • Support Trustees in the production of the Annual Report and Accounts.
    • Manage the Risk Register and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Support and promote the values of TCR.
  2. People Management

    • Provide direct line management for key roles, including Operations Manager, Youth Lead, Creative and Community Lead and Finance Officer.
    • Provide overall strategic oversight of volunteer involvement across TCR, ensuring effective systems for coordination, communication, record keeping and appropriate policies.
    • Have overall responsibility for HR and staffing policies, procedures and recruitment.
    • Foster a positive, inclusive and supportive working culture.
  3. Operational Delivery & Management

    • Have strategic oversight of all service delivery to ensure quality and effectiveness, including youth work, facilities coordination, creative and community projects and food delivery.
    • Support the operational team in delivering high‑quality outcomes for beneficiaries, including direct involvement in operational activity as required.
    • Maintain overall responsibility for operational compliance.
  4. Financial Management & Funding

    • Lead the development of diverse and sustainable funding streams through strategic planning, grant applications, partnership initiatives and relationship building with funders and stakeholders.
    • Lead the development and growth of diverse commercial income streams aligned with the charity’s mission and long‑term sustainability.
    • Prepare and manage annual budgets and ensure efficient use of charity resources.
    • With the support of the Finance Officer, oversee cash flow and act as an authorised signatory for the charity’s bank accounts.
    • Assist Trustees with statutory reporting and compliance for Companies House and the Charity Commission.
    • Maintain strong relationships with funders, ensuring timely monitoring and reporting of impact data.
  5. Compliance & Policy

    • Develop and review organisational policies to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
    • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the organisation.
    • Serve as the Data Protection Officer (DPO), ensuring GDPR compliance.
    • Ensure all organisational delivery is safe and compliant with health and safety legislation.
    • Maintain overall responsibility for the care, maintenance and health and safety compliance of TCR’s buildings and grounds.
  6. Partnerships & Commercial Growth

    • Develop and maintain local, regional and national partnerships (e.g. youth work and cultural partnerships).
    • Act as a visible representative of TCR in the community to foster collaboration.
    • Drive commercial opportunities and initiatives that align with the charity’s mission to expand reach and sustainability.
    • Identify opportunities to expand reach, promote services and strengthen the charity’s role in the community.

Other Requirements

  • The Charity Director must be willing to undertake additional duties as reasonably required by the Board of Trustees to support the development and sustainability of the organisation.
  • Appointment to this role will be subject to: satisfactory completion of two references, an enhanced DBS check and confirmation of the right to work in the UK.
