The Regional Head of English Curriculum English (RHEC) will provide leadership for the AES academic teams for a specific number of ISCs, including line management of Curriculum Leaders of English (CLE). The RHEC will contribute to the delivery of excellent student outcomes; quality assurance and enhancement and curriculum innovation which embeds strong collaborative working in their centres and wider Study Group Network, both in the UK & Ireland and globally.
Reporting to the Senior Regional Head of English Curriculum (SRHEC) at the Curriculum Office, you will work closely with senior colleagues within and outside of your centres and be responsible for the delivery of progression targets set.
The RHEC will support the SRHEC with the design and delivery of Study Group English products, and work to achieve Study Group’s strategic vision of being a global leader in international education.
The successful candidate will have recent successful line management experience in an academic setting within a relevant subject discipline and have proven ability to engage with a HEI both in the UK & Ireland and globally, in collaborative developments.
The successful candidate will have a teaching commitment of 5 hours per week in the centre they will be based in.
About The Role
- Contribute to Study Group strategic vision and growth through development of new products and review of current English products in UK & Ireland and globally, with the support of the SRHEC
- Communicate our vision to drive forward continuous improvement in Academic English Skills and enable ISCs to achieve the aspirational targets for student outcomes.
- Contribute to planning and development including human resources; academic development; learning, teaching, and assessment; and academic quality assurance and enhancement, in Academic English Skills.
- If required by ISC Centre Directors, attend, and actively contribute to relevant University partnership Boards and Committees for the partner universities within their clusters.
- As requested by Centre Directors, attend relevant centre’s deliberative and management committees.
- Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats and identify appropriate actions to solve problems and enhance delivery with the other RHEC.
- Line Manage AES Curriculum Leaders in their specified centres.
- Organise regular network meetings with AES Curriculum Leaders in their Centres to communicate changes
- Provide effective and efficient academic management and co‑ordination of AES staff resources, working closely with the SRHEC and Centre Directors and their Senior Management Teams.
- Ensure the recruitment of AES staff is planned, timely and compliant.
- Ensure that the Academic English Skills team meet all minimum expectations/compliance in their duties and provide feedback on their performance.
- Provide high‑level support of QA activities, e.g. recruitment and liaison with External Examiner for reporting Centres and supporting with any QA issues identified in English programmes
- Take responsibility for academic standards, the quality of learning opportunities, the accuracy and completeness of published information, ensuring that they are managed appropriately and in accordance with SG policies and procedures.
- Oversee the effective operation of the Academic English Skills and programme review processes across your specified centres.
- For your specified of centres, oversee RPAG reporting of Academic English Skills and ensure quality of feedback to students.
- Contribute to progress against AES actions in the Centre Action Plan (CAP), as directed by the Centre Directors and supported by the SRHEC
- Contribute to ensuring that the Centre’s Quality Assurance framework is implemented in areas relevant to Academic English Skills
- Contribute to analysing data and feedback from Academic English Skills modules for your centres.
- Contribute to reports, analysis and evaluation for all internal and external scrutiny processes as directed by the SRHEC and Senior Leadership Team of your centres.
- Gather and report feedback from AES Curriculum Leaders and tutors to SRHEC for action
- Work to ensure that AES staff are recruited compliantly and SE work together as one team, both within each of your centres and collaboratively across the SG network.
- Contribute to delivering the curriculum effectively and efficiently, including teaching 5 hours/week.
- Work closely with Centre staff team, and supported by AES Curriculum Leaders and tutors, to ensure that students at risk are being provided with appropriate support and, where required, timely intervention.
- Contribute to the delivery and assessment of provision.
- Support a cost‑conscious working environment, at the same time as delivering a quality service and experience to students in the centres you are responsible for.
- Contribute to ensuring that the Centres are compliant in relation to Safeguarding responsibilities and AES staff across the Centres are aware of their obligations and requirements.
- Accountable for ensuring that the Centre is compliant with UKVI regulations in terms of register completions and student attendance.
- Provide leadership cover for “high support centres” (e.g. during Curriculum Leaders’ absence), in coordination with the SRHEC
- Build relationships within the organisation and beyond.
- Develop close and effective working relations with Centre Directors, including senior managers, and key partners within partner universities for your centres, including Department and Faculty Link Tutors.

About You
- A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline, a master’s or higher degree is desirable.
- Relevant Teaching qualification (DELTA, TEFL, MA Linguistics etc.)
- Experience providing leadership in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, with evidence of success.
- Experience in teaching English to international students in UK Higher or Further Education.
- Experience providing feedback to another person about their performance, which achieved a positive improvement.
- Experience in HR duties, such as delivering training and taking part in the recruitment process.
- Ability to delegate activities, set deadlines and take responsibility for overseeing their successful completion to meet challenging deadlines.
- Experience in successfully leading on internal communication, which includes disseminating complex messages or changes to operations.
- Experience working with international students and an understanding of welfare, well‑being and cultural issues which may arise.
- Experience in data management and interpretation, and quality assurance.
- Experience working across, up and down an organisation as well as with external partners and both national and international stakeholders.
- Significant teaching experience within post‑16 education, a UK pathway Centre or higher education
- Experience in leading, advising or supporting others to develop curricula.
- Experience working within and setting targets to improve Virtual Learning Environments.
