About the role
Trust Grade Foundation Year 1 doctor, 12‑month fixed term starting 4 August 2026. Based at Aintree site, Fazakerley, Liverpool.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in the FY1 1:32 Full Shift Rota, including surgical full shift rota with night shifts and weekends.
- Take a history and examine a patient; identify and synthesize problems; prescribe safely; keep accurate and relevant medical records; manage time and clinical priorities effectively; communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues; use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care; act professionally; cope with ethical and legal issues; educate patients effectively; become a lifelong learner and researcher.
- Identify and assess common surgical emergencies, including general surgical patients, the critically ill, and postoperative patients.
- Attend operating theatre sessions to develop understanding of surgical principles, wound care, and suturing.
- Keep up-to-date with current knowledge and practice, attend clinical meetings, participate in audit and in‑service training of other healthcare professionals.
- Deputise for absent colleagues and perform additional duties in emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.
- Be available for irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties essential for continuity of patient care.
Training & development
Although the post is not recognised for Foundation training and the post holder cannot be signed off as achieving Foundation competencies, the post holder will work with a Clinical Supervisor and an Educational Supervisor utilising the NHS ePortfolio. The opportunity to attend essential courses such as ALERT and ALS and departmental teaching will be encouraged.
