Apprenticeships Available

  • Engineering Mechanical – Engineering Operatives, Engineering Maintenance Technician, Technical Support, and Engineering Fitter
  • Engineering Electrical – Engineering Operatives, Engineering Maintenance Technician, Technical Support Control and Instrumentation, Electrical / Mechanical and Engineering Fitter
  • Design Technician – Mechanical and Electrical Design
  • Welding and Fabrication – General Welding, Metal Fabrication, or Pipefitter
  • Civil and Highway Engineering
  • Manufacturing Operatives – Machining, Lean and Science Process Operatives

Apprenticeship Duration

The duration of our apprenticeships varies between 18 and 42 months, depending on the standard being followed, with additional time allocated for the End‑Point Assessment (EPA).

Where will I train?

Depending on the specific vacancy you apply for you could be based in one of our Gen2 Skills Centres for the first part of your apprenticeship or work with an employer from day one and attend Gen2 training sessions one day per week at one of our centres in:

  • Workington
  • Carlisle
  • Furness

Plus, a Gen2 assessor will visit your workplace to check your progress and support your development.

Apprenticeship Process

  1. Apply OnlineSubmit your application via our website. You can choose as many or as few trades as you like.

  2. Application FeedbackOur recruitment team will review your application. If improvements are needed, we’ll set your application back to “pending” and email you with helpful tips to strengthen it — don’t worry, this is part of the process and helps you make the best possible impression. Once you have made amendments as advised, send it back to us for a further check.

  3. Selection ProcessOnce your application is processed and ready for employers, keep an eye on your email inbox— you’ll be among the first to be notified about new apprenticeship opportunities. If you’re interested and think a role is a good fit, let us know and we’ll send your application to the employer. They’ll review it and decide who to invite to the next stage of their hiring process.

  4. Employer InterviewsYou may be contacted directly by Gen2 or an employer at any point between now and September 2026 — so apply early and give yourself the best chance!

Qualifications

Each employer will set their own minimum criteria in line with the requirements for the apprenticeship standard. Generally, most will be looking for candidates to have a minimum of GCSE Grade 4 (Grade C) in Maths and English. Functional Skills Level 2 will also be considered equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (Grade C).
